Therapies - A Whistle Stop Tour

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Depression

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Depression

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Depression

Want to understand what's keeping your depression going day to day? Keen to learn some strategies to help become ‘unstuck’?

Then CBT might be right up your street. CBT for depression is an evidence based therapy, which focusses on breaking cycles of behaviour, thoughts and difficult feelings. As your therapist, I’m keen to understand how your history impacts on your current difficulties, and to work in a way that builds self esteem and positive beliefs about yourself.

CBT for anxiety involves understanding what may be keeping your anxiety going and introducing you to coping skills that can help. This could involve helping you to feel more resilient to the situation/triggers, helping you to manage anxious thoughts, teaching behavioural strategies - there are so many ways CBT can help! It does depend on the nature of your anxiety - I’d be happy to consult with you to discuss what this work might look like for you.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

A specialist treatment for PTSD; this therapy helps by reducing how distressing past memories feel, and activating positive/new beliefs.

It’s a therapy that requires you to revisit traumatic memories - so can feel a lot! However it can also be hugely powerful and effective for symptoms of trauma. As a therapist, I can offer EMDR as a standalone therapy. I also often use EMDR as a follow on from CBT work if this is likely to help - eg where someone feels difficult past experiences shaped their anxiety or depression.

I get lots of enquiries from people who aren’t quite sure what they’re looking for - this might be the therapy type, therapist themselves or even what they want to get out of therapy.  Rather than expecting people to jump into work immediately, I find having a consult before booking anything usually helps.
